I am the mother of a wonderful young man named Nicholas. Nicholas was diagnosed with Autism at the age of 6 months. He is not very verbal but is active.
After he graduated from high school, I began to see how limited the opportunities for Adult Special Need Indvidual's are in Texas. I worked full time, and my son was able to do a lot on his own but cannot be by himself due to safety concerns. Then it made me wonder how many other parents are going through this same thing.
That is when I decided to use the land I have and make a day camp for special need individuals to come and hangout with individuals like them and also be active in a safe environment. A lot of parents need to work but want to know their son or daughter is going to be looked after and not just sitting in front of a tv.
Here on the farm their day is going to consist of daily activities. We will start off feeding the animals, getting the fresh eggs from the chickens, and picking from the vegetable gardens. Then we'll take all those foods and make their lunch for the day. We will also have an indoor activity area that has basketball, lounge area, arts and crafts.
Being active is so important for the body, the mind, and the spirit. Animals can offer companionship, emotional support and therapeutic benefits.
